More Helpful Hints

When you record a video from your webcam, the quality of your webcam video image is critical to having a positive experience. Ensure you use HD Option on Webcam and set to 320x240 for image size.

  1. Webcam Quality
  2. Lighting
  3. Internet Bandwidth

Webcam Quality

It is important to have a webcam with at least 1.3Mp image resolution, 30 frames per second (fps) motion control, a good quality glass lens, auto focus, and preferably a built-in microphone. USB webcams are particularly useful as there is no software to load. Simply plug them into a USB port and the computer will recognize it automatically. No more worries about software drivers. The good news is quality webcams which meet good specifications can be found for as low as $20.

Lighting

Lighting can dramatically affect the quality of your webcam video image, both in resolution and in color saturation. Adjusting the location and brightness of your lighting can help if your video looks dim, grainy or washed out. The following common problems may be caused by lighting, and here are suggestions to improve the quality:

  • Dim Video

There isn't enough light in your room. Try turning on more lights, or move to an area where there is more light.
  • Dim Image

This could be caused by having a bright light source behind you. The camera adjusts its sensitivity to the background instead of you. Try positioning yourself so the light source is in front of you.
  • Grainy Video

While this could be caused by a low quality camera, it can also be caused (or made worse) by not having enough light. To compensate for the lack of light, cameras often adjust their sensitivity which creates more grain or “noise” in the image. Try turning another light on, or sitting closer to and facing the light source.
  • Choppy video

This can be caused by not having enough light in your room, but can also be caused by not having enough bandwidth.
  • Washed Out Image

This is usually caused by a light that is too intense (example: having a light shine directly at your face). Try dimming the light, or reflecting the light off a light colored surface, like a white piece of paper on your desk.

Top 10 Job Interview Questions

  1. Discuss your professional background.

State years of experience in each field. Include education, certifications, and relevant work experience.

  2. What type of position are you seeking?

Think outside the box. This is where you can express what it is that interests you about work itself, as well as directing attention to a specific position or field that you would like to work in.

  3. What do you consider your three strengths?

Three strengths are good, just stay positive. A few good examples: Your problem solving skills, Your ability to work under pressure, Your communication skills and/or team work abilities, Your ability to focus on projects, Your leadership skills, Your positive attitude, Your work ethic. What are three characteristics that make you the person you are that no one can take away from you?

  4. What motivates you to put forth your greatest effort?

This is a personal trait that only you can answer, but good examples are: Challenge, A finished product, Achievement, Recognition, Accomplishment. What inspires you to go to work everyday and strive to excel at your job.

  5. What kind of challenges are you looking for?

This is where you can open the can. Express what it is you love about what you do and how challenges motivate you to succeed. Explain what drives you to be the best you can be.

  6. Discuss the position you've held that was the most meaningful and why?

Consider this question seriously. You should explain an experience that truly held you in your grips and express the power of what you attained from it. Remember, this position need not have been your highest level employment, this is a chance for you to tie in your answers from the above questions and explore your passions within the workplace.

  7. What type of work environment are you most comfortable with?

For this question you should consider whether you enjoy a small or large organization, do you like to work in an office, outdoors, in a team environment, etc. Express your preference, but never rule out the alternatives.

  9. Are you a team player?

Yes, of course you are a team player. Give examples, specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team. Maybe explain your positive attitude towards leading the team or doing your part with the end result being a team that has accomplished the goal.

anderson_banner 2011 Small Business of the Year

In appreciation of the Small Business Institute (SBI) and the Anderson School of Management (ASM) at the University of New Mexico, Jobflikz would like express their gratitude to the following students of Dr. Maria Gondo's class: Mr. Scott MacDuffee, Mr. Zachary Fullbright, Ms. Ashley Aragon, Ms. Teng Ma, Ms. Ashley Kreamer, and Ms. Sarah Nutt.

In February of 2011 I contacted Professor Raj, Director of Small Business Institute Director's Association (SBIDA) to inquire of a program with the MBA students at the Anderson School of Management to analyze the current business model of Jobflikz with end results reaching a competitive analysis and strategic plan. This group of students was fascinating to work with and had excellent feedback ending with a top notch presentation. As the owner of Jobflikz, I got great satisfaction and results from this experience and would highly recommend this program to all Small Businesses in our State. And to know that we have such talent right here in our city, is something we all need to be taking advantage of!!
